Handsome and Bingo return for their second adventure, which finds them in a small farming town in Iowa as they are driving from New York City to Hollywood. Just outside of Thursday, Iowa, they hit a turkey on the road with their car. Soon they have bought a turkey farm with most of their savings from a hand who it later turns out did not own the farm at all. When a dead man turns up in their shack on that land, they stick around town until the murderer can be caught. There is also a lost treasure of gold bullion hidden from a bank robbery, as well as escaped prisoners, beautiful girls, and other interested parties, one of whom seems to be a killer.

While this is another humorous mystery from Craig Rice, it is a bit of a let down from the others in this series. Although the various characters are wacky and the mystery is sufficiently interesting, the plot doesn’t include the screwball, breakneck pace that the other two do. Still, it gets extra points for being set in small town Iowa, getting the geography right, and knowing the difference between accents being Svenske or Norske.
