Follow the Clues step #42: from Twice to Once

A gigolo/hit man has grown tired of his wealthy, older wife and plots to toss her off their yacht into the middle of Lake Erie. An embezzler, aboard a fishing boat with two older men, finds her stranded on a small island. A young doctor is called upon their return and sends the woman to the hospital, along with one of the older men who is suffering from some kidney stones. Their rooms are switched at one point, and an old maid business office employee directs the gigolo inadvertently to the wrong room, where he murders the wrong person. The older wife disappears from the hospital and the police and the young doctor start trying to unravel this mystery.

The point of view keeps switching here from character to character, and many of them are somewhat seedy and weak. The mystery is prolonged greatly by people not speaking up and telling others what they know. The novel started out well, but lost some of its focus as the point-of-view switched and scenes we had already witnessed were told from a different angle. The stupidity of the characters was also frustrating.
