Follow the Clues step #35: from Gold to Gold

Only one out of two brothers involved with the French Resistance have survived the war. The surviving brother, at odds with his family, becomes involved with a police investigation into some collaborationists. That investigation leads the brother and his police commissioner friend to discover traitors within his own circle of family and friends.

I found this one a bit slow going at times, and the traitor was not hidden well at all. Still it conveyed a good flavor of the time and situation in post-war France, a somewhat unusual setting for these 1950s mysteries. John Stephen Strange was a pseudonym for Dorothy Stockbridge Tillett, who had been writing mysteries since the late 1920s. This one was toward the tail end of her career, as she only published three more mysteries over the next 20 years.
