Three novellas by Norman Daniels, two of which are Crimson Mask stories under the Frank Johnson house name, plus one short story make up this issue of High Adventure. The non-Crimson Mask Daniels story, “Spy Manhunt,” is the best here, in my opinion. It is from the same issue of Detective Novels Magazine, from April 1942, as is the second Crimson Mask story here. I really want to enjoy hero pulps, and you would think I would with how many comic books I’ve read, but I always struggle with them. The Crimson Mask is no different, as he doesn’t distinguish himself very much. He wouldn’t qualify for anything but a backup story in most comics. He has no powers and little going for him other than running around with a mask on. At least the Shadow can cloud men’s minds and the Green Lama is green.
