Stewart Sterling – Where There’s Smoke (1946)

WhereTheresSmoke

Vintage Golden Age Mystery
Scavenger Hunt Category: Full Skeleton
Date Finished: May 18, 2016

A Fire Marshal Pedley story where he investigates a fire at a theater and the various characters around a radio star. There is some exciting fire action here and Pedley is an enjoyable character as are those around him. Apparently this series was carried over from the pulps, so perhaps 1940s readers were more familiar with some of the supporting characters, but here little backstory is given for them. The radio setting is interesting, though some of the motivations behind the arson seem a bit odd. Much just seems to be thrown in for the action. Still, I would enjoy finding more of these.

This cover does have the full skeleton, though he is wearing a shroud. The category description didn’t specify a full naked skeleton.
