Vintage Silver Age Mystery
Scavenger Hunt Category: Dead Body
Date Finished: February 25, 2016
Another unintentional re-read. Apparently I read this before in 2000, but it was on my TBR shelves. It certain did not seem familiar, which is not a good sign. A department store head of security investigates a shoplifter, a dead former employee, a store robbery scheme, the kidnapping of his girlfriend, and a underground night club, all, of course, connected. The girlfriend gets very little to do here, which apparently is true of most of these Don Cadee mysteries, of which this is the final one. There isn’t much mystery here, just some tracking down of suspects. While the setting of a department store detective is somewhat original, the execution is nothing special, and apparently not memorable. I’ll probably end up reading this again in another 16 years.
