Les Savage, Jr. – Treasure of the Brasada (1947)

Category: Published in 1940s
Date Finished: December 14, 2015

This is clearly a post-war psychological novel in which the protagonist has to struggle against his own overwhelming fears after being rolled by a horse, along with his struggles against the law, outlaws, and treasurer seekers. Some have called Savage’s work noir, though I find it tough to classify non-film items as noir. It is of the same zeitgeist, though. The action at the end does pick up the story, but I did struggle with finding time or inclination to read this. I wanted to like it more, but perhaps it was the wrong book for a busy week.
