Brad Ward – Six-Gun Heritage (1955)

Category: Gun in Title
Date Finished: November 1, 2015

A Texas Ranger, considered by many to be a coward, tracks a killer on his own, when both are captured by an Indian tribe and tortured. One dies and one survives, so mutilated that no one recognizes which one he is. He returns to the ranger’s home town and fights to restore his family’s ranch to its former glory against the villain who is trying to take over. Sure, we know how this is going to end, but the whole confused identity bit adds some variety to this typical plot. The writing is good and moves along. The author, Samuel A. Peeples, also wrote some Star Trek episodes, including the second pilot.
