Ellis Peters – Black Is the Color of My True Love’s Heart (1967)

Silver Age
Category: Academic Mystery
Date Finished: August 21, 2015

This was supposed to be the Color in the Title mystery, but since the one that was intended as the academic mystery was so bad and so far outside my comfort zone, things got switched around. This one is set in a music school in the English countryside, as they host a folk music symposium. After the disappearance of two individuals, Inspector George Felse is called in by his son. This mystery is competently told, but not terribly exciting or unusual. Inspector Felse differs little from Inspector Alleyn or Inspector West. This is my first Ellis Peters mystery, so I assume her Brother Cadfael novels are much more unusual, since those are much more well known. In academia this one is an average C.
